What’s the difference between the BIBO Classic and BIBO Bar?
The BIBO Bar is the more basic of our two water dispenser models and offers chilled, ambient and boiling filtered water with minimal controllability options – it’s a case of simply touching the key to dispense the temperature of water you want, when you want it. BIBO Classic offers more technical functions and features such as 1°C temperature control and timed on/off features, for people who want a more technical experience. Other main differences are:
BIBO Classic comes in 10 colours and BIBO Bar in 4.
BIBO Classic has a UV filter and carbon block filter, whereas the BIBO Bar has just carbon block – more than adequate for filtering the UK water supply.
BIBO Classic has touch controls with a display screen to tell you what it’s doing, whereas BIBO Bar has touch controls with audible feedback.
BIBO Classic has an adjustable timed sleep function (1 to 4 hours), BIBO Bar automatically sleeps after 4 hours of inactivity.
BIBO Bar is designed largely for domestic use but is suitable for small offices of up to 5 people, whereas BIBO Classic can dispense enough water for much larger families, as well as offices of up to 15 people.
Do I have to fill the BIBO up with water myself, like my coffee machine?
No, the beauty of the BIBO is that it’s simply plumbed into your mains water supply. It automatically refills as you take water from it, so it’s always ready to go, both for boiling & chilled water.
How much water will the BIBO produce?
The BIBO Classic will produce 7 litres per hour of chilled water. It will also produce 15 litres per hour of hot water. You can set the temperature range to suit your personal taste; the BIBO Classic can be programmed to dispense water at between 5-16˚C for chilled water, 30-60˚C for ambient and 70-98˚C for hot water.
The BIBO Bar will produce 3 litres per hour of chilled water and 10 litres per hour of hot water. BIBO Bar’s dispense temperatures are set at 5˚C for chilled water and 96˚C for hot water with a 97˚C boost boil function.
Is the BIBO difficult to operate?
The BIBO Classic has a state of the art touch screen panel, whereas BIBO Bar is controlled by touch keys. To dispense water, you simply choose whether you would like hot or cold water and your BIBO will dispense your choice. You can also program the BIBO Classic to fill your favourite mug, glass or sports bottle.
How hot is the water when it’s dispensed from the BIBO?
The BIBO Classic and BIBO Bar’s hot water is automatically set at 96˚C which is the perfect temperature for making tea and coffee. There is a boiling boost button to take the temperature up to steaming hot 98˚C for BIBO Classic, and 97˚C for BIBO Bar, should you require it. The Chinese, masters in tea-making over thousands of years, say that water should never be boiled prior to making tea, as it removes the oxygen from the water.
What if I've got a water softener?
We can safely install a BIBO to a softened water supply. Artificially softened water is not necessarily bad for you. People on low-sodium diets are sometimes told to avoid artificially softened water because the softening process replaces calcium ions with sodium ions, but that doesn’t mean it is “salty”, and a pint of softened water might contain less salt than a slice of bread. However, water softeners are installed to provide water for washing, not drinking, and most people prefer to drink hard water because it tastes better. That is why it is normal to install one un-softened “drinking water” tap to the kitchen sink, which is fed direct from the mains, with the rest of the house taking its water via the softener.
What child safety features does it have?
We take children’s safety very seriously. On the the BIBO Classic and the BIBO Bar, hot water can only by dispensed once a separate unlock button has been pressed. BIBO Classic also has an additional child lock which requires the unlock button to be held down for 3 seconds before hot water can be dispensed.

How big is the BIBO?
The BIBO Bar measures 37cm high, 32cm wide and 35cm deep. The BIBO Classic measures 34.2cm high, 30cm wide and 35cm deep. The dispense tap on both BIBOs is 23cm high. Both have been specifically designed to fit neatly in a kitchen or utility room and slots easily underneath all standard overhead kitchen units. You can take a look at BIBO’s dimensions in more detail below.
BIBO takes up only slightly more counter space than a kettle and yet delivers so much more, by also giving you back the space in your fridge taken up by a filter jug or bottled water.
How do I clean it?
Simply wipe the BIBO down with a damp cloth. The drip tray can be removed and put in your dishwasher.
Can I get a teapot or cafetiere underneath the spout?
Yes, absolutely. Unlike similar products, both BIBO Classic and BIBO Bar have been designed with a removable drip tray so that you can place items up to 23cm high underneath the spout.
What do the filters do?
The BIBO’s multi-stage filtration system removes chlorine as well as affecting levels of many contaminants. On top of that, the UV filter lamp ensures the water is free from bacteria. You can read more about BIBO’s multi-stage water filtration system here.
How often do I have to change the filters?
BIBO Bar has one simple carbon filter which needs replacing every 6 months. BIBO Classic has 2 types of filter; the MAXI filter needs to be replaced every 6 months, and the UV filter lamp which needs to be replaced once a year. All our filters are 100% recyclable. For more information on changing BIBO’s filters, take a look at this page.
Where can I get filters from?
You buy filters from our website. We send you the filters in the post and you can change them yourself very easily. You can see how by watching our filter change video. If you sign up for our Filter Pack Delivery Service, you’ll receive 30% off our standard filter pricing, and we’ll also send you reminders about filter changes.
What about limescale?
Our filters do not remove the minerals that cause limescale but the hot tank has been designed to keep those minerals in suspension so that the elements inside do not become furred. We also offer a hot tank cleaning kit for customers who have especially hard water. We have actively avoided using an anti scale “dosing” system, unlike our major competitor, because we do not believe that adding anti-scale chemicals to the water is the best option for the creation of pure water.
Can I recycle the filters?
Yes, simply put the MAXI filter into your plastics recycling bin and the UV filter lamp into your glass recycling bin.
Can I install the BIBO myself? Do you install it?
BIBO has a network of experienced installers who can install your BIBO for you for £78, to make it easy for you, and to ensure a high standard of connection to your water supply.
